With great sadness, we report that Most Puissant Companion Lawrence O. Weaver passed away on Tuesday August 8, 2023. He served as General Grand Master from 2017-2020.

Lawrence O. Weaver attended school in Stuttgart, Germany, and graduated from Stuttgart High School in 1960 receiving a General Education Diploma. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1959 and served on active duty until 1962 when he became a member of the Inactive Reserve until 1965. On July 7th, 1962, he married Mary Demarest. They have three children and four Grand Children. From 1962 to 1964, he was a mill worker for the Georgia Pacific Corp. and Menasha Corp. From 1964-1969, he was an equipment operator for Coos County Road Department.

Companion Weaver attended Southwestern Oregon Community College from 1966-1969 studying Business Education. From 1969 to 1975, Companion Weaver was a Retail Manager for Fred Meyer Inc. Then he became a Purchasing Coordinator for the Oregon State Highway Division. While working for the State of Oregon, he became a member of the Oregon National Guard in 1976; in 1978, he switched to the U.S. Army Reserve. In 1989, he became a Buyer for Multnomah County. In 1991, he became purchasing Manager for Clark County. In 1996, he retired from the Army Reserve as a First Sergeant with 26 years of service. In 2000, he retired from Clark County.

While working for these various organizations, Companion Weaver was a member of the Governor’s Advisory Board of Oregon Qualified Rehabilitation Facilities from 1987-1989; President from 1990-1991 of the Oregon Public Purchasing Association; President from 1996-1997 of the Columbia Chapter National Institute of Governmental Purchasing; and President in 1999 of the Pacific Northwest Purchasing Association.

Most Puissant Companion Weaver was raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason in Maritime Lodge #193 in Portland, Oregon. He is a Past Master of Maritime Lodge #193, Washington Lodge #46, and Oregon Masonic Lodge #101, all in Portland, Oregon. He is a member of several other lodes to include Warren Lodge #10, Jacksonville; Sunnyside Lodge #163, Portland; Pendleton Lodge #52, Pendleton; and Glacier Lodge #10, Anchorage, Alaska. He served the Grand Lodge of Oregon as District Deputy Grand Master from 1996-98, and then as Most Worshipful Grand Master in 2002-2003. He was a member of the Grand Lodge Board of Trustees from 1999-2004 and Chairman in 2003-2004 of the Masonic & Eastern Star Home Board from 1999-2004, Chairman in 2003-2004, and elected to the Oregan Masonic Charitable Foundation in 2001 and the current President.

Companion Weaver was exalted in Washington Chapter #18, R.A.M., in Portland, Oregon, and served as Excellent High Priest in 1999. He is a member of Columbia Chapter #23, St. Helens, and Anchorage Chapter #3, Anchorage, Alaska. He is a member of Hodson Council, Order of the High Priesthood. He served the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Oregon as Most Excellent Grand High Priest in 2004-05.

Companion Weaver was greeted in Washington Council #3, Portland, Oregon serving as Illustrious Master in 1997. He is also a member of Columbia Council #19, Saint Helens; and Anchorage Council #1, Anchorage, Alaska. He is a member of the Order of the Silver Trowel, Oregon Council of Thrice Illustrious Masters. He served as Most Illustrious Grand Master of the Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Oregon in 2001-02.

He served the General Grand Council as Northwest Regional Deputy General Grand Master from 2005 to 2008. He was elected to The General Grand Council line as the General Grand Principal Conductor of the Work in 2008, elected Deputy General Grand Master in 2011, and succeeded to General Grand Master on February 11, 2013. He was elected General Grand Master in Buffalo in 2014.

Sir Knight Weaver was knighted in Washington Commandery #15, Portland, Oregon, serving as Eminent Commander 1997-98. He is also a member of Columbia Commandery #26, Saint Helens; and Anchorage Commandery 2, Anchorage, Alaska. He is a member of the Oregon Past Commander\’s Association and has served as Secretary. He served the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Oregon in 2003-04 as Right Eminent Grand Commander.
